She was prominent in Philadelphia society before her marriage and is referred to in the opening stanza of Col. Sheppen's Lines Written in an Assembly Room designed to commemorate the beauty and charms of Philadelphia's belles: " In lovely White's most pleasing form, What various graces meet; How blest with every striking charm, How languishingly sweet! " She was married to Robert Morris, March 2, 1769, by the Rev. Richard Peters. Her husband was at the time thirty-five years old, and one of the most prominent merchants of the day.
