The Title 'Readings in the Sociology of the Professions written/authored/edited by Sheo Kumar Lal, Kirti Khanna, A. Chandani, U.R. Nahar Foreword By Yogendra Singh', published in the year 1988. The ISBN 9788121201261 is assigned to the Hardcover version of this title. This book has total of pp. 488 (Pages). The publisher of this title is Gyan Publishing House. This Book is in English. The subject of this book is Sociology., 1988, Stanford University Press, Stanford: 2011. Softcover. Brand new book. Sir Edward Coke (1552-1634), the first judge to strike down a law, gave us modern common law by turning medieval common law inside-out. Through his resisting strong-minded kings, he bore witness for judicial independence. Coke is the earliest judge still cited routinely by practicing lawyers. This book breaks new ground as the first scholarly biography of Coke, whose most recent general biography appeared in 1957, and draws revealingly on Coke's own papers and notebooks. The book covers Coke's early life and career, to the end of the reign of Elizabeth I in 1603 (a second volume will cover Coke's career under James I and Charles I). In particular, this book highlights Coke's close connection with the Puritans of England; his learning, legal practice, and legal theory; his family life and ambitious dealings; and the treason cases he prosecuted. Allen Boyer is senior appellate counsel for the Department of Enforcement of the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority. "[Boyer] brings his subject vividly to life and writes with verve adn imagination, presenting a well-structured, comprehensive and impressively researched book that serves both the legal historian and the general reader very well. Sir Edward Coke and the Elizabethan Age should be considered by any student of Elizabethan history because, in exploring a great lawyer and the law, it also sheds light on politics, religion, culture and society. I will not be alone in looking forward to the second volume."ÑRenaissance Studies, Stanford University Press, Stanford: 2011, Fordham University Press, New York: 2012. Softcover. Brand new book. The Interval offers the first sustained analysis of the concept grounding Irigaray's thought: the constitutive yet incalculable interval of sexual difference. In an extension of Irigaray's project, Hill takes up her formulation of the interval as a way of rereading Aristotle's concept of topos and Bergson's concept of duration. Hill diagnoses a sexed hierarchy at the heart of Aristotle's and Bergson's presentations. Yet beyond that phallocentrism, she points out how Aristotle's theory of topos as a sensible relation between two bodies that differ in being and Bergson's intuition of duration as an incalculable threshold of becoming are indispensable to the feminist effort to think about sexual difference. Reading Irigaray with Aristotle and Bergson, Hill argues that the interval cannot be grasped as a space between two identities; it must be characterized as the sensible threshold of becoming, constitutive of the very identity of beings. The interval is the place of the possibility of sexed subjectivity and intersubjectivity; the interval is also a threshold of the becoming of sexed forces. Rebecca Hill is Lecturer in Communication in the School of Media and Communication at RMIT University, Melbourne. "Through a close and careful exegesis of Aristotle's analysis of topos and Bergson's concept of duration, the book proposes an original, ambitious, and much needed philosophical genealogy of one of the most important notions in Luce Irigaray's feminist theories, namely, that of the interval of sexual difference. The first sustained analysis of the philosophical import and genealogy of the the spatio-temporal interval in Irigaray's work, Hill's shows the far reaching implications of this notion for Irigaray's discussion of embodiment, sexuality, and the politics of relations as such."ÑEwa Ziarek, University at Buffalo, The State University of New York "The interval is a force of dispersal or difference that is constitutive of identity: it is the necessity of relations between terms. Rebecca Hill has provided a powerful original analysis of the interval in thinking sexual difference and its implications for our thinking about space, time and identity."ÑElizabeth Grosz, Rutgers, The State Univeresity of New Jersey "Ostensibly a book on Aristotle, Irigaray and Bergson, Hill's profound meditation on the interval offers a rich and provocative argument regarding the very relation between temporality and being. Anyone interested in contemporary philosophy, including readers who want to experience the complexity of an insightful reading that charts its way between fidelity to authorial intention and conceptual complexity, should read and appreciate this timely text. This book should appeal to readers who are unfamiliar with the philosophy of Luce Irigaray or Bergson as much as to those who would benefit from the original interpretations and connections that Hill offers."ÑClaire Mary Colebrook, Pennsylvania State University, Fordham University Press, New York: 2012, Dordrecht, Holland: D. Reidel/Springer, 1981. Paperback. Good-/None. Boston Studies in the Philosophy and History of Science Light blue softcover, toned along edges and spine, and chipped along front top edge. Bottom front corner creased. Binding is sound. Interior is unmarked. 8vo. BOOK INFO: With this defense of intensional realism as a philosophical foundation for understanding scientific procedures and grounding scientific knowledge, James Fetzer provides a systematic alternative to much of recent work on scientific theory. To Fetzer, the current state of understanding the 'laws' of nature, or the 'law-like' statements of scientific theories, appears to be one of philosophical defeat; and he is determined to overcome that defeat. Based upon his incisive advocacy of the single-case propensity interpretation of probability, Fetzer develops a coherent structure within which the central problems of the philosophy of science find their solutions. Whether the reader accepts the author's contentions may, in the end, depend upon ancient choices in the interpretation of experience and explanation, but there can be little doubt of Fetzer's spirited competence in arguing for setting ontology before epistemology, and within the analysis of language. To us, Fetzer's ambition is appealing, fusing, as he says, the substantive commitment of the Popperian with the conscientious sensitivity of the Hempelian to the technical precision required for justified explication. To Fetzer, science is the objective pursuit of fallible general knowledge. This innocent character ization, which we suppose most scientists would welcome, receives a most careful elaboration in this book; it will demand equally careful critical consideration. (From the preface)., D. Reidel/Springer, 1981, This book introduces readers to the current debate concerning the two predominant Roman Catholic ethical methods that have emerged since Vatican II. The two methods investigated are both grounded in the Catholic natural law tradition and are designated as the Basic Goods Theory (BFT), also known as the New Natural Law Theory, and revisionism., Paulist Press, 2003<
