Mr. Christie: I wish to point out that the objection against considering and deciding this question at once seems to me to have very little point. If we adjourn this meeting we adjourn the consideration of the question, and we occasion fresh inconvenience, because it will be very difficult to decide it in time if these alterations are to take any effect before the annual general meeting. If any Fellow wishes to propose any amendment to these proposals of the Council it is equally open to him to propose it after they have been adopted at a special meeting (No, no), as it is at the present time. After these have been adopted he can move for another special meeting and have the matter considered. We have had a special general meeting called here, and the Fellows are all summoned together to discuss this question, and I must say it seems very absurd that they should go away without discussing it. Whether they decide one way or the other is another question, but it is a very important matter that the question should be thoroughly ventilated. Here is a proposition that we should have the discussion shirked by a simple question of adjournment. ("You cannot bring forward an amendment.") Excuse me, practically any discussion is allowable; and amendments in the way of suggestions, though they cannot be voted upon, may be brought forward. (Laughter.)
