The glossy jacket is not quite fine, but is very good. There's a previous bookseller's price-sticker on the back, and if you look hard and hold the jacket up to the light, it shows a kind of superfine superficial crazing effect, as you get on pretty much all of the jackets in this Aperture Masters of Photography series. We can say that with some confidence, because this is the first of nine volumes that is going to be listed here. In this volume the selection includes Modotti's 'Roses', so well written about in Rebecca Solnit's recent book Orwell's Roses (2021). There's a good potted biography of Modotti in the introduction to this volume by Margaret Hooks., Books<
