London: Inter-Art Co. ,. Good with no dust jacket. 1920. Unknown. Soft Cover. Original Vintage Postcard - Highly Un-PC nowadays! The written date on the reverse shows 1920. Number 2518 in this series. The image is of a Pretty Little Black Girl with many bows in her hair with 2 black dolls and a little black boy busy eating a melon, hogging all 3 pieces. The text in blue beneath the image reads - the little girl speaking = " Women and children first, Rastus!". A 'humorous' sentiment very much of the period! . The address and message on the back is in purple pencil, and posted/stamped. Overall a generally clean and tidy card, but with a few light marks/small stain to bottom blank area, and small corner tip rubs, lacking a tiny portion of the bottom right tip (0.01cm) , but an interesting example of the completely oblivious modes of thought of the day to colour, etc. For International buyers, postage paid on postcards will be highly reduced to 'at cost' when the item is processed, but initially your purchase will show the higher 'up to 1 kilo' cost. I will email you the exact cost when ordered, or contact me first please. See images. ; Comique; Oblong 24mo 5" - 6" tall ., Inter-Art Co. , 1920, 2.5, New York. Very Good. 1981. Letter. Macomber / Mr. and Mrs. Rowland Evans / 3125 O Street, N.W. / Washington, D.C. 20007" William Butts Macomber Jr. (March 28, 1921 November 19, 2003) was an American diplomat who served in several positions in the United States Department of State. He was the 12th president of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. PROVENANCE: Rowland Evans was a provocative newspaper columnist, commentator and author who antagonized liberal politicians and championed conservative causes. He left Yale and enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1942 during World War II and was discharged in 1944 because of malaria. In 1963, Mr. Evans and Mr. Novak began writing ''Inside Report,'' an insider's view of politics that was published four times a week until Mr. Evans retired in 1993. Mr. Evans and Robert Novak began their work as columnists in the early 1960's, a time when newspaper columnists wielded outsize influence in national politics. The pair pioneered in transferring that influence to the medium of cable television with the political discussion program ''Evans & Novak'' -- carried on CNN from that cable network's beginning. Rowland Evans and his wife Kay (Katherine Winton Evans), also a respected writer and editor, were mainstays on the Washington social scene, hosting many memorable gatherings in their handsome Georgetown house -- to which flocked influential and remarkable people drawn from journalism, politics and general society over the decades from the 1960s to the 2000s. Both Evans and Novak became more predictably conservative over the years, particularly during the Reagan years. Reportedly, both columnists voted for JFK in 1960 and for Lyndon Johnson in 1964. Evans earned a place on Richard Nixon's infamous "Enemies List." Novak reported that Evans had JFK as a guest for the first dinner party the latter attended as President Elect. Kay and Rowland Evans has a particularly close friendship with Robert F. Kennedy, his wife Ethel and their family.; Signed by Author ., 1981, 3, * Pretty illustrated covers-Fairly clean copy -covers are bright shiny -one crease on the spine -edge of the book- does have some wearing chipping color loss edges- one small fold corner -edges of pages are not pristine colored there is some shelving wear- discoloration book -not printed on the most fantastically expensive paper-. Covers and spine are flat, clean, bright, no rips, one bent corner and one slightly bent corner tip, one very faint vertical crease beside front spine, miniscule edge wear, white cover is a little bit age darkened on edges, front cover has a faint blue patchy broken line 1/8 inch thick x 2 3/8 inch long and one slight 1/4 inch crease on top edge, white colour of spine is slightly darker than original and has a tiny chip in the black letter E but no creases, rips or edge chips, back cover is basically same as front cover and has a very thin short whitish line and a few dots of white which might be from rubbing adjacent book on shelf. Page edges sunned, there is a thin bit of blue colour 1 1/4 inch long on top edges (perhaps original colour?), the side edges have some colour off and a visible flat wave on the edges of all pages but the book is straight and square. Inner end papers are white with visible tanning near spine at front and pretty much all over the inside back cover. Inside of book is tight, clean, clear, bright, and the slight wave along the side edges of most pages does not make the text any less legible. A bit of the page edge colour has bled onto the edges of many pages but biggest area I saw was only 1/8 inch wide. A few pages have old dog ears about 1/2 inch, restored flat and very hard to see. Michael Foreman, born Pakefield,Suffolk,1938.Studied at Lowestoft School of Art and at the Royal College of Art.Lecturer at St Martin's School of Art (1963-65),the London College of Printing (1967-8),the Royal College of Art (1968-70) and the Central School of Arts and Crafts (1972).Art Director of Playboy magazine,Chicago (1965) and the King Magazine,London (1966). Painter, etcher, illustrator and writer of children's books. His illustrative work is distinctive: he often works in colour or halftone, creating luminous effects with veils of thinly diluted pigment over delicate pencil outlines; in his etched illustrations,he uses soft ground techniques to achieve subtle tonal graduations. His imagery, ostensibly decorative, humorous or with a sometimes child-like appearance, often has menacing or bizarre overtones. He was winner of first prize in the Francis Williams Book Illustrations Award (1972+1977) and the Silver Eagle Prize at the Festival International du Livre,Nice,France (1972),the Graphics Prize at Bologna (1982) and the Kurt Maschler Award (1982),winner of the Kate Greenaway Medal. His book 'War Boy' (1989) won him the Kate Greenaway Medal for a second time.
