Recently rebound in full buckram with morocco lettering piece to spine; pp. x, [2],340; large folding aquatint panorama of Jerusalem in sepia, printed on high-quality paper, aquatint vignette to title-page, 2 aquatint plates (one folding, view of Mount Sinai Convent); preliminaries with foxing, otherwise, a very good copy with contemporary stamp of King's Inns Library in Dublin on title-verso. First edition. The present volume offers a record of Sir Frederick Henniker's sojourn in the middle east, concentrating largely on Egypt. After his travels through Nubia and excursion to the Boeris Oasis Henniker descended to Cairo, and from here he successfully undertook the attempt to become the first European to scale the summit of the pyramid of Chephrenes. In the Appendix, the author includes inscriptions recorded at Mount Sinai and Temples at the Oasis and the Narkoos. The illustrateiong were engraved by George Hunt after drawings by the author.
