Meet Judge Patricia Barron Jai is a 9 year old girl who is curious about how the justice system works in Georgia. A family friend "Miss Pat" has recently been elected a judge. Jai travels to Athens, Georgia to visit "Judge Pat" to learn about her and her court. She meets the courtroom players: the judges, witnesses, deputy sheriff, lawyers, clerk's staff, and police officers. Judge Pat tells her how the court system works to solve problems fairly between ordinary people. Jai learns the value of telling the truth in all situations. Later, Jai travels back to Athens to participate in the judge's family and community life. She also learns the importance of family, history, study and travel. Join Jai on this unforgettable journey through the legal system and beyond. Judge Patricia Barron is a native of Atlanta, Georgia. She grew up in Atlanta during the end of the turbulent civil rights era. She decided at age 12 to become a lawyer. That revelation occurred during social studies classes in an all Black Atlanta public school. Upon desegregation, she was transferred to an integrated high school in the 11th grade. Judge Barron is a 1972 graduate of George High School, attaining the second highest grade point average in her graduating class. She is a graduate of Mercer University in Macon, Georgia, and Georgetown University Law Center in Washington, D.C. Once a resident of the public housing projects in southwest Atlanta, Judge Barron grew up to become a lawyer, law professor and judge. She is an inspiration to anyone who comes from humble beginnings and wants to dedicate their lives to serving humanity.
