Cambridge, Mass: Candlewick Press. Fine 2002. Softcover. Marfree, acidfree fresh prtg, Holes on buff cover actually cutout to show slick colored endpaper; not marked-in, clearance or discard. Mails from NYC usually within 12 hours. ; Judy Moody Series; 7.3 x 5.5 x 0.5 inches; 160 pages; Online Rev. : The first day of third grade puts Judy Moody in a mad-face mood. She just knows everyone will come back from summer vacation with word T-shirts, like "Disney World" or "Jamestown: Home of Pocahontas. " All Judy has is a plain old no-words T-shirt. She'll have to go to a new classroom, with a new desk, and she won't have an armadillo sticker with her name on it like she did last year. And knowing her luck, she'll end up sitting next to Frank, the boy who eats paste. For breakfast her dad makes eggs with the yellow middle broken, and her younger "bother, " Stink, thinks he knows everything now that he's starting second grade. But bad moods never last long with the irrepressible Judy Moody, and before long, her day--and year--look brighter. Mr. Todd assigns the class a "Me" collage, which sets Judy on a lively and hilarious self-exploration over the next few action-packed weeks. Prolific author Megan McDonald (Beezy and Insects Are My Life) introduces readers to a thoroughly charming, independent, willful heroine, who is far more upbeat than she likes to let on to her reading audience. Remarkably understanding adults populate Judy's world, allowing her to express her witty, resourceful self freely. Peter Reynolds's personable line drawings complement McDonald's text in a light, pleasing style. (Ages 6 to 10) --Emilie Coulter. From Publishers Weekly McDonald's (the Beezy books) comical novel introduces the entertainingly mercurial Judy Moody. The book itself has a look as fresh as its heroine (a compact trim size and an inventive jacket design die-cut that reveals the bright green and orange of the cover below) . From the start, Judy devises intriguing solutions to her dilemmas. The book opens on the first day of third grade, with a hilarious spread in pen-and-ink wash showing only Judy's feet sticking up from her bed as her mother attempts to rouse her from the doorway. What to wear? Judy has no T-shirt to rival her classmates' shirts touting their exotic summer destinations, so the heroine decorates a plain white T with a drawing of a shark and the words "I Ate a Shark. " For a "Me collage" at school, she insists that her cat, Mouse, is too old to qualify for the "My Favorite Pet" slot; unable to find a two-toed sloth, she purchases a Venus flytrap and proceeds to overfeed it raw hamburger. Her relationship to her best friend, Rocky, and her second-grade brother, Stink, also propel the plot in diverting directions, and the dialogue is spot-on (e. G. , when aspiring doctor Judy gets her kit in the mail, Stink asks, "Why can't I ever be Elizabeth Blackwell, First Woman Doctor?" and she responds, "For one thing, you're a boy") . It's hard to imagine a mood Judy couldn't improve. Ages 6-9. (Apr. ) Copyright 2000 Reed. ., Candlewick Press, 2002, Penguin Books Ltd. 1998. Paperback. Near Fine. This novel, already a best-seller in England, is an intelligent, funny, and entertaining coming-of-age and road-trip tale. When David Greenford agrees to spend three months backpacking through India with Liz, it's mostly beca use he's hoping things will progress romantically between them. Once in Ind ia, and faced with the intense heat, poor accommodations, questionable food , and Liz's tyrannical personality, Dave begins to wish he had never agreed to go. To make matters worse, Liz meets up with a group of bizarre hippie backpackers and soon runs off with a tantric yoga teacher, abandoning Dave altogether. It turns out, though, that being dumped by Liz is the best thin g that could have happened to him. Once free of her, he learns to get by al one, gains an appreciation and understanding of India, and discovers in him self a level of independence and confidence he didn't know he was capable o f. A cynical, comical, and candid portrayal of late adolescence, independen ce, sex, drugs, and backpacking through a Third World country. Kathleen Hug hes-- This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this tit le., Penguin Books Ltd, 1998, 326 pp. 8vo. "Nikolai Grozni was a music prodigy, a jazz pianist training at the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston, when suddenly he decided to transform his life. He moved to India to become a Buddhist monk shaving his head, learning Tibetan, and donning long traditional robes. In the Himalayas living in a hut a stone's throw from the Dalai Lama's compound Grozni became entrenched in a sometimes comical, sometimes reverent, always intriguing community comprised of feisty nuns, bossy monks, violent chess players, demanding teachers, and a spectacular friend called Tsar, a fallen monk from Bosnia. Grozni went to India in search of knowledge, but learns that the people who can teach him the most are not wearing uniforms and following special diets, but rather those who, like him, struggle with doubts and cannot accept an established system of faith. Instead, he journeys with his colorful cast of friends to a new understanding of himself and his place in the world. Like Anne Lamott or Elizabeth Gilbert, Nikolai Grozni offers the insights of a religious pilgrim from the inside in his case, from a male, Buddhist perspective. Thoughtful, funny, and elegantly written, Turtle Feet details the reality of a world much mythologized in the West and tells a wonderfully bittersweet story of a spiritual journey."Keywords: MEMOIR AUTOBIOGRAPHY BUDDHISM First edition. Details zum Buch
The Colossus of Destiny

Jedi Master Mace Windu leads a battle against Separatist forces for control of the planet Simocadia! While the Confederacy of Independent Systems battles for the planet's rare fuel source, and the Republic tries to repel the invaders, the rulers of Simocadia choose a different option to save the planet: awakening the Ardana Shadex, an indestructible, mechanized giant that has been sleeping for centuries under the planet's surface! But awakening the colossus could cost many lives and cause more destruction than the current war. Mace Windu races against time and across a dangerous landscape to prevent his one-time friend, Prince Yojan, from causing disaster.
