Money, time, and patience may be lavishly used in the preparation of a work of this character, but it is nearly, if not quite, impossible to make the first edition complete and accurate. We offer, therefore, no apology for errors and omissions. We have earnestly endeavored to reach by mail every educational institution of private or semi-private character in the country, and as far as possible, from all available information, we have treated each impartially, according to its reported standing. The schools and colleges will be found ready and willing to supply catalogues to those who need more detailed information than is herein given. To the private schools primarily we direct the service of this work, hoping that the favor with which it is received will place it upon a permanent footing, and justify periodical editions. By request the first revision will be published in the spring of 1899. We invite criticism, especially corrections and additions, for in no other way can Where to Educate be made to attain that point of perfection which we wish it to reach. To those who have so promptly and generously given us the aid necessary to the success of our publication we extend our thanks.
