On the altar was planted an ancient crucifix from the Regalia. King Edward s ivory comb was brought out, and when the King sate down in the royal chair, he called for the comb that he might see it. At the same time the Royal Prerogative was exalted by the introduction of the prayer (omitted since the time of Henry VI.) that the King might have Peter s keys and Paul s doctrine. 4 The words to the people were said to have been left out in the oath.6 Whether by accident, or from its being the proper colour for the day (the Feast of the Purification), or to declare the virgin purity.<
