PEDRO PARAMO: THE "WITCLIFF GALLERY SERIES" ARTIST BOOK - signiertes Exemplar

2002, ISBN: 9780292771215

Gebundene Ausgabe, ID: 727277984

Austin, TX: University Of Texas Press, 2002. First Edition. First Printing.. Hardcover. Fine/Fine Dust Jacket.. Austin, TX: University Of Texas Press, 2002. Hardcover. Fine/Fine. First Edition/First Printing. 161 pages. Artist Book. The first appearance of the novel in this edition, which is the fifth title in the Witcliff Gallery Series. Precedes and should not be confused with all other subsequent editions. Published in a small and limited first print run as a hardcover original only by a University Press. The First Edition Thus is now scarce. A brilliant production by Josephine Sacabo: Oversize-volume format. Red-orange cloth boards with titles on cover and spine, as issued. Text by Juan Rulfo, in a magisterial new translation by Margaret Sayers Peden. Photographs by Josephine Sacabo. Printed on pristine-white, thick coated stock paper in the United States to the highest standards. In pictorial DJ with titles on the cover and spine, as issued. Presents, in an Artist Book rendition, Juan Rulfo's "Pedro Paramo" in a felicitous English translation. Masterpiece. One of the canonical titles of the 20th century, it is beautifully interspersed with a photographic narrative sequence by Josephine Sacabo. The definitive translation by Margaret Sayers Peden was originally published by Grove Press, made possible by Susan Sontag, who promised Juan Rulfo at his deathbed that she would arrange a new translation of his novel. "Interspersion" hardly does Sacabo's contribution justice. She has, in effect, re-interpreted a great novel, honored it in the process of re-imagination, and created a whole new book, in the collaborative spirit of the Artist Book. Juan Rulfo was a major influence on some of the most important writers who came after him and are identified as key figures of the so-called "boom" in Latin-American literature: Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Jose Donoso, and Mario Vargas Llosa, among others. He has also been an inspiration to artists, photographers, and other creative spirits, Josephine Sacabo being one of them. Her photographs tell a parallel and haunting story, very much like Rulfo's, simultaneously recounting both the physical journey ("pilgrimage") and emotional discovery ("homage") by an individual of his complex past. Josephine Sacabo has collectively titled the photographs, "The Unreachable World of Susana San Juan: Homage to Juan Rulfo". Mysterious, poetic, and eloquent, this is an absolute "must-have" title for Juan Rulfo and Josephine Sacabo collectors. This copy is very prominently and beautifully signed in black ink-pen on the half-title page by Josephine Sacabo. It is signed directly on the page itself, not on a tipped-in page. This title is a great novel. As far as we know, this is the only such signed copy of the First Edition Thus/First Printing available online and is in especially fine condition: Clean, crisp, and bright, a pristine beauty. A rare signed copy thus. 51 hand-tinted plates. A fine collectible copy. . ISBN 0292771215., University Of Texas Press, 2002

Pedro Paramo - neues Buch

2003, ISBN: 0292771215

Pasta dura, [EAN: 9780292771215], Univ of Texas Pr, Univ of Texas Pr, Book, [PU: Univ of Texas Pr], Univ of Texas Pr, Winner, Fred Whitehead Award for the Best Design of a Trade Book from Texas Institute of Letters Western Books Exhibition Selection, Rounce & Coffin Club, 2003Deserted villages of rural Mexico, where images and memories of the past linger like unquiet ghosts, haunted the imaginations of two artists—writer Juan Rulfo and photographer Josephine Sacabo. In one such village of the mind, Comala, Rulfo set his classic novel Pedro Páramo, a dream-like tale that intertwines a man's quest to find his lost father and reclaim his patrimony with the father's obsessive love for a woman who will not be possessed—Susana San Juan. Recognizing that "Rulfo was describing a world I already knew" and feeling "a very personal response, particularly to Susana San Juan and her dilemma," Josephine Sacabo used Rulfo's novel as the starting point for a series of evocative photographs she calls "The Unreachable World of Susana San Juan: Homage to Juan Rulfo."This volume brings together Rulfo's novel and Sacabo's photographs to offer a dual artistic vision of the same unforgettable story. Margaret Sayers Peden's superb translation renders the novel as poetic and mysterious in English as it is in Spanish. Josephine Sacabo's photographs tell, in her words, "the story of a woman forced to take refuge in madness as a means of protecting her inner world from the ravages of the forces around her: a cruel and tyrannical patriarchy, a church that offers no redemption, the senseless violence of revolution, death i, 9535860011, Ensayos Fotográficos, 9535852011, Fotografía, 9535742011, Arte y Fotografía, 9298577011, Categorías, 9298576011, Libros, 9535863011, Fotógrafos de la A a la Z, 9535852011, Fotografía, 9535742011, Arte y Fotografía, 9298577011, Categorías, 9298576011, Libros, 9575685011, Ficción Contemporánea, 9575666011, Literatura y Ficción, 9298577011, Categorías, 9298576011, Libros, 9647847011, Literatura y Ficción, 9647825011, Libros en Idiomas Extranjeros, 9298577011, Categorías, 9298576011, Libros
