Did he not conceive that by fuch a bargain he made it the intereft of that fellow to take him to the cheapeft inns, which is as much as to fay the moft beggarly, that the feeding of his fare might coft him little ? He declaims moft tragi- illy againft Italian beds, Italian .cooks, Italian fojl-borfes, Italian poJlUUons, and n najiinejs, He allures. his corre fpondent, pendent, that be may give isohat fcope he fkaj'es to his fancy, but Jhall never imagine half the difagreeablenefs of them. I will readily admit all this: yet a little obvious good management, dnd a little extraordinary cxpence, will make that road, in all parts, tolerable, and, in many, comfortable; becaufe there are many good towns along it, which by driving poll may eafily be reached one after another every night. What fignifies his complaining that the fowls drefled for him on the road were bad eating, becaufe killed on his alighting, and immediately boiled and roafted ? The inn-keepers in that part of the world are not poflefled of the art of divination, and he gave them no intimation beforehand of his coming. Would he have them kill part of their poultry every day...
