A Place to Belong - Taschenbuch

2006, ISBN: 9781420887877

Gebundene Ausgabe, ID: 55296700

Berkley Publishing Group, August, 2001. Uncorrected proof. Paperback. Very good. General wear & corner bend on cover, spine creases, clean text. From Publishers Weekly\nWho is Angel Face? A serial killer who has a penchant for doctors, an innocent victim who is being framed by the CIA or a nonentity? The reader will have as much trouble trying to determine the identity of this elusive figure as California surgeon Jordan Carpenter, and Forster's clumsy plotting and purple prose (""They had answered the incessant drumbeat pounding within them"") does little to guide the reader through this tangled web. When a mysterious CIA agent knocks on Jordan's door to inform him that he's on Angel Face's death list, Jordan is doubtful that the man's suspect, beautiful Angela Lowe, could be a murderer. Jordan soon learns, however, that Angela has the instincts of a trained killer and a history of abuse that could unhinge any sane person. For reasons never made clear, Jordan hunts Angela down, whisks her off to the Mexican jungle and tries to make her remember long-forgotten incidents from her past. In the process, passion flares between the two. Forster (The Morning After; Sinful) is noted for writing romantic suspense tinged with eroticism, but the masochistic aspect of this relationship will stun even her most stalwart fans. A hasty conclusion leaves many loose ends dangling, and the novel's flat characters will do little to hold the reader's attention. \n\nCopyright 2001 Cahners Business Information, Inc. \n\nDownload Description\n""She looks like she?s from heaven. But she?s leading him straight to hell? They call her Angel Face. She is as beautiful as her killings are brutal. Her victims are doctors. Her list of targets is long. And Jordan Carpenter is next. The CIA has asked him to help capture her. Ensnare her. Beat her at her own game. It?s a risky proposition, but he has no choice. Jordan, so used to saving others? lives, now has to save his own. How could such a lovely woman possess such a diabolical mind? In pictures, she seems innocent and sweetly sensual. But in person, he?s been told, she?s seductive. Evil. Obsessed. Her face haunts him. Thoughts of her consume him. And the moment they touch, he knows he will never be free of her. This angel. This innocent. This killer? "", Berkley Publishing Group, Pustak Mahal/Unicorn Books, 2001. Hardcover. 9780553803587 Hardcover with dust jacket, in Fine / Fine condition, no stamps writing or marks, a very nice looking book and jacket, ; A-180; From Elizabeth McGregor comes an unforgettably moving, richly layered novel with a timeless love story at its core. Beautiful, suspenseful, hauntingly erotic, A Road Through the Mountains tells of one woman’s extraordinary journey to a new life with the help of the man she thought she’d lost long ago—a journey that will take hold of your heart.Anna Russell is a talented painter and single mother. Her daughter, Rachel, is a ten-year-old whose undoubtedly gifted mind is trapped by a form of autism known as Asperger Syndrome. When a car accident leaves Anna in a coma, both their lives—and the lives of all those around them—are changed forever. Across the Atlantic, David Mortimer receives an unexpected phone call from Anna’s mother. The scientist is stunned to learn that he’s a father. His long-ago affair with Anna was short and intense; when she suddenly returned home to the States, David slipped into a reclusive life of research, haunted by memories of the girl who’d left him without explanation. Now he knows he must break his self-imposed isolation, go to Boston and the woman he’s always loved, meet the child he never knew he had—and perhaps coax them both out of their silence. But as David attempts to put together the puzzle of Anna’s life as an artist, mother, and daughter, he finds himself involved in a relationship with Anna far more intimate than he expected. Why did she leave him so many years before? Where, as she lies in a coma, is she now? And how is it that he loves this woman even after all these years? When he stumbles across Anna’s mysterious fascination with the rare flowers that were once their shared passion, he and Rachel, their beautiful, sensitive child, may just have discovered how to help Anna find a way back—a road through the mountains.Lyric, tender, as fragile and enduring as love itself, A Road Through the Mountains draws upon its author’s personal experiences and establishes Elizabeth McGregor as a major storyteller. ., Bantam, 2004, AuthorHouse, 2006. AuthorHouse 2006 Near Fine/ Unread, light tip wear to glossy pictorial wraps. Product DescriptionA travelogue full of adventure, A Place to Belong is the story of a young teenage boy's search for self worth and faith in a cruel world. Paul Miller was eight years old when his parents took him on a mystifying, zigzagging journey, from Detroit to Florida, to California and back again. His father's tenuous grip on reality becomes as changeable as the landscapes they travel through. Paul's simple questions are ignored or answered by the back of his Father's hand. Paul jumps the roof-tops of Detroit slums, butts heads with the gangs of Los Angeles and gets caught up in a world of petty theft. Life hangs by bus fare, the surprising kindness of a loving family, a filthy motorist with a penchant for young boys, the kiss of a young girl.Along the way, Noah, a wise fisherman, shows Paul that God isn't some imperious judge sitting on top of a throne, but can become your best friend, a buddy you can talk to. " But can such a simple view account for all the misery Paul experiences"In this captivating and at turns humorous story, a young man travels into the depths of despair and back again to find a place he can call home. "I got hooked and couldn't stop. This is a splendidly written story and quite a story to tell. So candid, unpretentious, and courageous."David Morris, Senior Editor Guideposts Books."Miller tells a remarkable story, one that is in a sense an American Angela's Ashes but with the added element of faith as a factor in surviving an incredibly rough childhood."Michael Wilt, Editor, Nimble Spirit. About the AuthorNo, Paul Miller has not written several novels, nor has he ever been invited to be a guest on a literary talk show and never had an interview with Time Magazine. A large portion of his life has been spent working in manufacturing and real estate. This is his first novel and he has desperately wanted to write it for 50+ years. But, bearing one's soul to the world can be a very scary adventure.. Paperback. Near Fine., AuthorHouse, 2006
