Dimensions: 8.3in. x 5.8in. x 0.1in.Seminar paper from the year 2004 in the subject Business economics - Economic and Social History, grade: 1, 0, Abo Akademi, Finnland (Hanken), course: Economic History and Development, 19 entries in the bibliography, language: English, comment: World trade and politics became increasingly influential in the lives of ordinary people in the 19th century. The demographic revolution and enormous population growth caused wandering paupers, large numbers of circularly migrating harvesters and emigration especially to America. Governments were afraid of social unrest and therefore hoped to stimulate emigration . This paper has the aim to frame the migration exodus which interested in a way or another the whole world during the 19th century. , abstract: Human migration denotes any movement of groups of people from one locality to another, rather than of individual wanderers. Over the course of prehistoric time and in history, humans have been known to make large migrations . The term migration refers to the territorial mobility determined by economic reasons (e. g. the research of better working conditions) or politic reasons (e. g. the research of more suitable situations for the exert of collective and individuals rights). The aim of this paper is to analyze the migration process that interested most of the 19th century. In order to understand the phenomenon I will try to find out the economic and social reasons and the individual motivations of migrants that led to this big and massive movement of human and capital resources. I will then try to understand which has been the importance of this phenomenon in the definition of the new cultural and economic world asset. The history of each of the countries is reflected in their emigration distribution patterns. This item ships from multiple locations. A hundred and fifty years ago, Uncle Tom's Cabin worked to free the slaves. One novel, the story of a remarkable man facing the terrible reality of slavery, brought a tremendous fuel to the abolitionist movement in the time leading up to the American Civil War. One book helped to free the slaves, by making the slave human to the world. RIVER OF INNOCENTS is an Uncle Tom's Cabin for today's world, where slavery is still very much alive. Today there are thousands of women on our shores and hundreds of thousands more overseas who live as slaves. They are real people, flesh and blood and beating hearts, and more of them are sold in a decade today than were sold in the entire 400-year-history of the African slave trade. IN A WORLD of stolen children and broken dreams, the seventeen-year-old Majlinda struggles to hold on to her humanity. She has no control over her life or even her own body, yet where people are disposable, where rape is part of the normal day, and where guards watch her every move, Majlinda strives to create a family out of the stolen children around her and to give them hope when all they know is fear. RIVER OF INNOCENTS is a novel about that hope and that terrible fear, about ideals in the face of despair, about the strength we find in ourselves when others need us, and about slavery as it is.
