Feminist Utopian Novels of the 1970s: Joanna Russ and Dorothy Bryant (Literary Criticism and Cultural Theory) - gebunden oder broschiert

ISBN: 0415967872

[SR: 12146908], Hardcover, [EAN: 9780415967877], Routledge, Routledge, Book, [PU: Routledge], Routledge, This work presents an exploration of the reinvented utopia that provided second-wave feminists of the 1970s with a conceptual space to articulate the politics of change. Tatiana Teslenko argues that utopian fiction of this decade offered a means of validating the personal as the political, and of criticizing the patriarchical social order. In her examination of two novels of the 70s - Dorothy Bryant's The Kin of Ata are Waiting for You and Joanna Russ's The Female Man - Teslenko provides a comprehensive account of the generic strategy of feminist utopian fiction. Feminist utopias, according to Teslenko, describe a better time/place for women while working with the linguistic and generic tools of patriarchy. These fictions attempt to transgress social codes, to refigure patriarchal tropes, and to explode genre-setting rules through the use of fragmentation, ambiguity, multiplicity and openness. This book demonstrates feminists' attempts through fiction to envision a new political order. Teslenko takes a thorough look at a reworked 'good place that is no place' that elaborates a site of gendered opposition., 3573, History, 549726, Business & Management, 5, Computers & Technology, 1000, Subjects, 283155, Books, 6343231011, 20th Century, 6343226011, Modern (16th-21st Centuries), 9, History, 1000, Subjects, 283155, Books, 10207, Criticism & Theory, 10204, History & Criticism, 17, Literature & Fiction, 1000, Subjects, 283155, Books, 10225, Movements & Periods, 10227, Arthurian Romance, 10229, Beat Generation, 10243, Gothic & Romantic, 10233, Medieval, 10236, Modernism, 10238, Postmodernism, 10240, Renaissance, 10245, Surrealism, 489654, Victorian, 10204, History & Criticism, 17, Literature & Fiction, 1000, Subjects, 283155, Books, 9882, Classics, 9822, United States, 17, Literature & Fiction, 1000, Subjects, 283155, Books, 12015, Writing, 12017, Academic & Commercial, 12018, Children's Literature, 12020, Editing, 12022, Fiction, 12040, Journalism & Nonfiction, 12042, Newspapers & Magazines, 12046, Play & Scriptwriting, 12048, Poetry, 170945, Technical, 12051, Travel, 12053, Writing Skills, 12027, Erotica, 12034, Mystery, 12036, Romance, 12038, Science Fiction & Fantasy, 5267707011, Writing, Research & Publishing Guides, 21, Education & Reference, 1000, Subjects, 283155, Books, 11344, Women Writers, 11325, Women's Studies, 3377866011, Politics & Social Sciences, 1000, Subjects, 283155, Books, 468204, Computer Science, 491298, Algorithms, 491300, Artificial Intelligence, 491306, Database Storage & Design, 491308, Graphics & Visualization, 491302, Networking, 491310, Object-Oriented Software Design, 491312, Operating Systems, 491314, Programming Languages, 491316, Software Design & Engineering, 465600, New, Used & Rental Textbooks, 2349030011, Specialty Boutique, 283155, Books, 491406, American Literature, 468236, Literature, 468206, Humanities, 465600, New, Used & Rental Textbooks, 2349030011, Specialty Boutique, 283155, Books
