Daalder (born March 2, 1960, The Hague, Netherlands), has served as President of the Chicago Council on Global Affairs since July, 2013. He was the U.S. Permanent Representative on the Council of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) from May 2009 to July 2013. He is a specialist in European security. He was a member of the staff of United States National Security Council (NSC) during the administration of President Bill Clinton, and was one of the foreign policy advisers to President Barack Obama during his 2008 presidential campaign. He was a senior fellow at the Brookings Institution. I. M. Destler is a professor in the School of Public Policy at the University of Maryland. Dr. Destler is a scholar who specializes in the politics and processes of U.S. foreign policymaking. He is co-author, with Ivo H. Daalder, of In the Shadow of the Oval Office(Simon and Schuster, 2009), which analyzes the role of the President's national security adviser from the Kennedy through the George W.
