We were all with him in spirit and sympathy when he so bravely gave back his beloved little daughter to God just before last Easter, but it is not easy for a naturally reserved man to write about such a sorrow in order to help others, and I fed certain that his many readers throughout the world will be grateful to him for doing so. It will strengthen many mourners to learn that bereavement is the deepest initiation into the mysteries of human life, an initiation moresearching and profound than even happy love. I ove remembered and consecrated by grief belongs, more dearly than the happy intercourse of friends, to the eternal world it has proved stronger than death 1 p. 88. But it is not only in the last chapter that the author of this book has revealed the secret of his own life... PERSONAL RELIGION AND THE LIFE OF DEVOTION 3n Jrlemori of Mn.
