Born at Guernsey 1777; mar. 1st, 1806, 2nd dau. of John Lukis, Esq. , of G ucmscy; 2ndly, dau. of John Wood, Esq. , of Guernsey, merchant; entered the navy in 1793, and erred under Lord De-Saumarez; in 1793 assisted at the capture of Ia Reunion, French frigate; and subsequently of 2 privateers in the Bay of Biscay; served under Lord De-Saumarez, in the Orion (74), at the actions near LOrient, the battles of Cape St. Vincent (where he was wounded), and the Nile; superintended the debarkation of the troops at the reduction of the Cape of Good Hope in 1804; served in command of the Rose sloop at the capture of the island of Anholt; and in 1810 received the approbation of the lords of the admiralty for beating off a Danish flotilla in a calm near the Scaw; received the order of the Sword of Sweden in the same year; became a capt.
