Neuroconstructivism - I: How the Brain Constructs Cognition (Developmental Cognitive Neuroscience): How the Brain Constructs Cognition v. 1 - Taschenbuch

2007, ISBN: 0198529910

[SR: 1426119], Paperback, [EAN: 9780198529910], Oxford University Press, U.S.A., Oxford University Press, U.S.A., Book, [PU: Oxford University Press, U.S.A.], 2007-03-15, Oxford University Press, U.S.A., What are the processes, from conception to adulthood, that enable a single cell to grow into a sentient adult? The processes that occur along the way are so complex that any attempt to understand development necessitates a multi-disciplinary approach, integrating data from cognitive studies, computational work, and neuroimaging - an approach till now seldom taken in the study of child development. Neuroconstructivism is a major new 2 volume publication that seeks to redress this balance, presenting an integrative new framework for considering development. In the first volume, the authors review up-to-to date findings from neurobiology, brain imaging, child development, computer and robotic modelling to consider why children's thinking develops the way it does. They propose a new synthesis of development that is based on 5 key principles found to operate at many levels of descriptions. They use these principles to explain what causes a number of key developmental phenomena, including infants' interacting with objects, early social cognitive interactions, and the causes of dyslexia. The "neuroconstructivist" framework also shows how developmental disorders do not arise from selective damage to the normal cognitive system, but instead arise from developmental processes that operate under atypical constraints. How these principles work is illustrated in several case studies ranging from perceptual to social and reading development. Finally, the authors use neuroimaging, behavioural analyses, computational simulations and robotic models to provide a way of understanding the mechanisms and processes that cause development to occur., 404260, Artificial Intelligence, 269265, Computer Science, 71, Computing & Internet, 1025612, Subjects, 266239, Books, 269709, Algorithms, 269678, Programming, 71, Computing & Internet, 1025612, Subjects, 266239, Books, 276355, Cognition & Cognitive Psychology, 276370, Emotions, 276389, The Self, Ego & Personality, 276348, Psychology & Psychiatry, 74, Health, Family & Lifestyle, 1025612, Subjects, 266239, Books, 496522, Specific Topics, 276351, Compulsive Behaviour, 276352, Eating Disorders, 276370, Emotions, 276407, Hypnosis, 276382, Mental Health & Illness, 276402, Sexual Behaviour, 276408, Sleep & Dreams, 276410, Suicide, 276389, The Self, Ego & Personality, 496550, Violence, 276348, Psychology & Psychiatry, 74, Health, Family & Lifestyle, 1025612, Subjects, 266239, Books, 277912, Biological Sciences, 277972, Animal Sciences, 277913, Biochemistry, 922086, Biological Science, 922084, Biotechnology, 277921, Botany & Plant Sciences, 922194, Ecology, 922094, Education, 922170, Evolution, 277942, Genetics, 277958, Hydrobiology, 922082, Reference, 277948, Taxonomy & Systematics, 57, Science & Nature, 1025612, Subjects, 266239, Books, 278168, Robotics, 278141, Electronics & Communications Engineering, 278115, Engineering & Technology, 57, Science & Nature, 1025612, Subjects, 266239, Books, 922532, Medicine, 270792, Basic Science, 922534, Dentistry, 922610, Diseases & Disorders, 922810, Education, 922556, Hospital Administration & Management, 922558, Medical Ethics & Legal Issues, 922560, Medical Research & Equipment, 922572, Medical Sciences A-Z, 270781, Midwifery, 922778, Nursing, 922802, Optometry, 922804, Pharmacy, 922806, Physiotherapy, 922808, Reference, 57, Science & Nature, 1025612, Subjects, 266239, Books, 922934, Artificial Intelligence, 922868, Popular Science, 57, Science & Nature, 1025612, Subjects, 266239, Books, 922948, The Brain, 922946, Human Biology, 922868, Popular Science, 57, Science & Nature, 1025612, Subjects, 266239, Books, 570674, Neuroscience, 564340, Biology, 564334, Scientific, Technical & Medical, 1025612, Subjects, 266239, Books, 571046, Electronics & Telecommunications Engineering, 564346, Engineering, 564334, Scientific, Technical & Medical, 1025612, Subjects, 266239, Books, 275749, Child & Developmental Psychology, 13392641, School Education & Teaching, 496792, Education Studies & Teaching, 1025612, Subjects, 266239, Books, 6182398031, Educational Psychology, 6182393031, Education Management & Organisation, 496792, Education Studies & Teaching, 1025612, Subjects, 266239, Books

[SR: 2114617], Paperback, [EAN: 9780198529910], Oxford University Press, Oxford University Press, Book, [PU: Oxford University Press], Oxford University Press, What are the processes, from conception to adulthood, that enable a single cell to grow into a sentient adult? They are so complex that any attempt to understand development necessitates a multi-disciplinary approach, integrating data from cognitive studies, computational modeling, and neuroimagingan approach until now seldom taken when considering child development. Neuroconstructivism is a major two-volume work that seeks to redress this balance, presenting an integrative new framework for considering development. In Volume One, the authors review up-to-date findings from neurobiology, brain imaging, child development, as well computer and robotic modeling to consider why children's thinking develops the way it does, and propose a new synthesis of development that is based on five key principles found to operate at many different levels of description. Their Neuroconstructivist framework also shows how developmental disorders, such as dyslexia, can arise from typical developmental processes operating under atypical constraints. Of central importance to Neuroconstructivism is the idea that computer and robotic models are vital tools for investigating the processes and mechanisms involved in learning and development.
