We need help in this area above almost anything else in the spiritual life and God in his generosity has provided it through the Apostle Paul., Zondervan Publishing House, 2004, London England: Simon and Schuster. Very Good. 2007. First Edition Paperback. Soft Cover. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall 0743275683 Paperback Paperback In April 1945 Hitler's bunker in Berlin was the last place Edith Mecklenburg wanted to be. But Edith had no choice: as secretary to Eva Braun, Hitler's mistress and -- for a few final, desperate hours -- his wife, Edith had to see it through to the bitter end. Edith was one of the lucky few. She not only got out alive but made a new life for herself in England. Sixty years on, now a widow and grandmother, the Bunker is almost forgotten. But the past has not forgotten her. Hans, a soldier she knew from those dark days, has written asking if he may visit. Obsessed with the war, he has spent the intervening decades tracking down all who were there, and who survived. In her reluctant raking-over of old coals, Edith finds embers that still burn, and in the act of remembrance a very current threat ...(We carry a wide selection of titles in The Arts, Theology, History, Politics, Social and Physical Sciences. academic and scholarly books and Modern First Editions ,and all types of Academic Literature.) ., Simon and Schuster, 2007, Little Brown & Co, 2006. In 1864 General William Sherman burned Atlanta and marched his sixty thousand troops east, through Georgia to the sea, and then up into the Carolinas. The army fought off Confederate forces and lived off the land, pillaging the Southern plantations, taking cattle and crops for their own, demolishing cities and accumulating a borne-along population of freed blacks and white refugees until all that remained was the dangerous transient life of the uprooted, the dispossessed and the triumphant. Only a master novelist could so powerfully and compassionately render the lives of those who marched., Little Brown & Co, 2006, London, United Kingdom: Ebury Press. Good. 2004. Reprint. Binding: Paperback Author: Cilla Black Publisher: Ebury Press, Cilla Black's autobiography, What's It All About, named after her signature Burt Bacharach hit, is fascinating for many reasons. One of these is the fact that, hard as it is to believe today, she was once considered to be a cutting-edge musical talent. She shared manager Brian Epstein with the Beatles and the boys even wrote several of her hits, including Love of the Loved. This early part of her career is particularly well evoked here and we are given a very vivid picture of growing up in a bomb-torn Liverpool of the late 40s. The details of the rigidly Catholic background which the singer ultimately broke away from make a very interesting backdrop to the story of Cilla's success, which was achieved against all the odds. As she would be first to admit, it was her ability that had to take her places: she was by no means conventionally pretty. It was the steadily growing stage presence and (most of all) that memorable voice that marked her out from her contemporaries. After the Mersey explosion, which happened as Cilla reached the age of 20, there was a notable lull until she was able to reinvent her career as host to such long-running shows as the sometimes cloying Surprise, Surprise and Blind Date (from which she famously resigned on air). And while these shows, like Cilla herself, have as many detractors as supporters, there's no denying her sheer professionalism and thorough understanding of her audience. Her life, famously, has been blighted by several personal tragedies, and they are dealt with frankly here. What's It All About won't necessarily win Cilla any new friends, but it's a frank and unvarnished account of a remarkable life in show business. --Barry Forshaw, 512320, Rock & Pop, 512314, Music, 268003, Film, Television & Music, 67, Biography, 1025612, Subjects, 266239, Books, 516730, Radio Performers, 268003, Film, Television & Music, 67, Biography, 1025612, Subjects, 266239, Books, 268019, Television Performers, 268003, Film, Television & Music, 67, Biography, 1025612, Subjects, 266239, Books, 758864, Theatre & Performance Art, 512326, Ballet, 758902, Magicians, 512324, Opera, 267970, Theatre, 67, Biography, 1025612, Subjects, 266239, Books, 268083, Women, 67, Biography, 1025612, Subjects, 266239, Books, 267335, Styles, 512268, Rock & Pop, 267324, Styles, 267294, Music, 73, Music, Stage & Screen, 1025612, Subjects, 266239, Books, 270584, Television, 270585, Direction & Production, 276879, Encyclopaedias, 275724, Guides & Reviews, 275725, History & Criticism, 275727, Screenwriting, 515348, TV & Film Scripts, 515338, TV Genres, 73, Music, Stage & Screen, 1025612, Subjects, 266239, Books
