Understanding and Treating Fear of Pain - gebunden oder broschiert

ISBN: 0198525141

[SR: 4367638], Hardcover, [EAN: 9780198525141], Oxford University Press, Oxford University Press, Book, [PU: Oxford University Press], Oxford University Press, People who suffer from chronic pain are typically found to be more anxious and fearful of pain than those who do not. Recent evidence has shown that the pain itself serves as a mechanism through which chronic pain is maintained over time. Even once the muscle or tissue damage is healed, a fear of further pain can lead to avoidance behavior, which over time, leads to deconditioning (e.g. decreased mobility, weight gain). This in turn leads to further experiences, negative expectancies, and strengthened avoidance. It is the reciprocal relationship between fear and avoidance that is thought to be responsible for maintaining pain behavior and disability. With fear of pain known to cause significant suffering and functional disability, there is a need for a greater understanding of this condition. This is the first book to explore this topic. It starts by introducing the current theoretical positions regarding pain-related fear and anxiety along with relevant empirical findings. It then provides comprehensive coverage of assessment issues and treatment strategies. Finally, the book suggests further areas for investigation.Pain-related fear and anxiety are now receiving considerable attention, and efficient and effective treatments are fast becoming available. This book will help guide and extend our understanding of a condition that has been shown to be associated with substantial suffering and disability., 600616, Chronic Pain, 4656, Diseases & Physical Ailments, 10, Health, Fitness & Dieting, 1000, Subjects, 283155, Books, 4682, Mental Health, 11128, Anxiety Disorders, 598622, Attention Deficit & Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorders, 4693, Bipolar, 282909, Codependency, 11146, Compulsive Behavior, 16311461, Dementia, 4689, Depression, 15992951, Dissociative Disorders, 282910, Dreams, 282911, Eating Disorders, 11170, Emotions, 4739, Happiness, 4694, Mood Disorders, 600620, Personality Disorders, 16311441, Post-traumatic Stress Disorder, 282839, Postpartum Depression, 4695, Schizophrenia, 10, Health, Fitness & Dieting, 1000, Subjects, 283155, Books, 227701, Psychiatry, 227703, Adolescent, 227704, Child, 227203, Internal Medicine, 265542, Medicine, 173514, Medical Books, 1000, Subjects, 283155, Books, 11143, Clinical Psychology, 6511980011, Psychology, 173514, Medical Books, 1000, Subjects, 283155, Books, 689763011, Psychiatry, 689725011, Clinical, 689674011, Medicine, 468228, Medicine & Health Sciences, 465600, New, Used & Rental Textbooks, 2349030011, Specialty Boutique, 283155, Books, 491492, Clinical Psychology, 491490, Psychology, 468214, Social Sciences, 465600, New, Used & Rental Textbooks, 2349030011, Specialty Boutique, 283155, Books
